What is the Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity Housing Corporation?
The main goal of the Fraternity Housing Corporation is to provide safe, competitive and attractive housing for Alpha Gamma Delta. Safety resources provided by the FHC could range from providing information regarding resident safety to installing sprinkler systems. To maintain attractive housing, the FHC could provide services ranging from simple aesthetic advice to oversight of multi-million dollar renovations to the property being assumed and fully managed by the FHC.
Why do we need a housing corporation and how is it feasible?
In addition to the goal of providing safe, attractive and competitive housing, collegians and volunteers have reached out to Alpha Gamma Delta asking for help and access to resources. Providing a housing corporation will be a major benefit to the membership. Building on former efforts, which allowed Alpha Gamma Delta to own its current properties at Chi Chapter-Michigan State University and Alpha Chapter-Syracuse University, Alpha Gamma Delta was able to lay groundwork and a foundation for the Fraternity Housing Corporation. Although Alpha Gamma Delta has introduced similar housing initiatives in the past in various formats, this fall will mark the first time that collegians will occupy housing that is owned and managed completely by the FHC. The FHC will lease directly to Alpha Chapter-Syracuse University, who will in turn sublease directly back to the collegians.
In addition to the project at Alpha Chapter, Alpha Gamma Delta has assisted several chapters in renovating their suites—Zeta Iota Chapter-Miami University, Delta Xi Chapter-Arizona State University and Theta Upsilon Chapter-Georgetown College. These successful projects have confirmed the need for Alpha Gamma Delta property renovation among our chapters.
While the FHC's desire is to support every chapter that requests property assistance, we are in the beginning stages and will evaluate requests on a case by case basis. As the FHC continues to grow and develop, it is expected that Alpha Gamma Delta can provide more property assistance and resources to better our property in safety and décor issues.
What happens to the current House Association Team?
The House Association Team for Alpha Gamma Delta will remain a vital component of the long-term housing strategy. The services offered by the Fraternity Housing Corporation are evolving and will continue to develop over the next few years. The introduction of the FHC is not intended to be a property mandate; the current local house associations will continue to function. As opportunities arise and needs are communicated, the FHC allows Alpha Gamma Delta to have a solution to help support our chapters.
For current incorporated house associations planning to renovate or update furnishings, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation may be able to help with the Educational Area Grant Program. When a chapter or house association participates in the program, donations raised locally by the chapter or club for the educational portions of housing projects may be made directly to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, providing a tax benefit to the donor. Chapters and house associations may not solicit educational restricted donations until a grant agreement has been signed with the Foundation. For more information, visit the Foundation website.
More information about the FHC will be provided as it is available. If you have questions about the Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity Housing Corporation or are interested in volunteering, contact Stephannie Sack Bailey, Executive Director, at sbailey@alphagammadelta.org or 317-663-4200.
