Founder Edith MacConnell Hickok, in describing the way she lived her life, said she lived with "the prescient conviction that the 'best is yet to be.'" Nothing more true could be said about the life and chapters of Alpha Gamma Delta. Our Founders provided an unwavering foundation in our Purpose and a Ritual that unites each Alpha Gam through our values so that we are equipped to always look forward with conviction at what is yet to come for our great Fraternity. With that in mind, on Saturday, April 20, 2013 Alpha Gamma Delta installed her 190th chapter at Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania, welcoming over a hundred new members into this purposeful sisterhood.
Each time a new chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta is begun, a new group of incredible and Purpose-driven women get the chance to impact Alpha Gamma Delta and be impacted by the Fraternity. The best and brightest women on campuses across North America get new opportunities each day to join new clubs and organizations, but as we all know, joining Alpha Gamma Delta is not just about a new involvement opportunity on campus. Joining Alpha Gamma Delta is about coming together around a common vision to inspire women and impact the world. The women of Lambda Gamma Chapter at Villanova University exemplify Edith's words and these ideals, and in one simple paragraph are able to describe the vision they bring to their new chapter and their purpose as they look toward what is yet to come. Their purpose statement reads:
"As Alpha Gamma Delta sisters, we will consistently strive to embody the Purpose by achieving excellence in the areas of sisterhood, scholarship and philanthropy. These are our goals as the founding members of Villanova University's Alpha Gamma Delta chapter: We will make it a priority to raise awareness of our philanthropy on campus, work to promote the image of ourselves as well-respected, scholarly women and help each other grow as individuals and in our sisterhood. We will be accountable for our actions and always remember that our choices reflect our community. As a sisterhood, we will work to create a compassionate environment within the Fraternity, throughout Villanova and in the greater community."
The women of Lambda Gamma have already begun to enact the Purpose in many ways in just a few short weeks. They have participated in Greek Week, participated in a "Love the Skin You're In" fashion show with the Panhellenic community, hosted an ice cream social sisterhood event, held a sisterhood retreat, completed multiple service and fundraising projects and so much more. With all that completed in just one semester, the possibilities for what is yet to come for these newest Alpha Gams are endless!
It is an exciting time for Alpha Gamma Delta as we are growing across the continent. As Emily Helen Butterfield said in 1931, "The growth and strength that our Fraternity has attained is so immeasurably above the Founders' expectations that I hesitate to express any wishes for the future lest they be too paltry." All of our members and especially the new initiates of the Lambda Gamma Chapter certainly have dreams for the future of Alpha Gamma Delta that will continue to push this Fraternity above all expectations.
Please join us in welcoming the newest chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta into our sisterhood. Congrats Lambda Gamma Chapter at Villanova University!
