Alpha Gamma Delta

International Philanthropic Focus
Through community service and awareness efforts, there's no doubt that Alpha Gams are impacting the world. Guided by the Purpose, our members feel a deep connection to civic involvement and are compelled to play an active role in our diverse society. Alpha Gamma Delta's chosen philanthropic focus is diabetes awareness and education, and members are encouraged to engage in community service that promotes this worthy cause. Diabetes continues to affect our members and their friends, families and acquaintances at an astounding rate, and as a sisterhood, we have the unique opportunity to look to each other for support and education.

Have you checked out the philanthropy video that was shown at International Convention 2014? Watch it now! This is a great resource for chapters who are required to show an international video for the philanthropy or service round of Formal Recruitment. We hope alumnae groups will use it, too!

Alpha Gamma Delta is excited to announce we are collaborating with the American Diabetes Association® to help support our efforts to expand diabetes awareness and education! While members should still plan and participate in fundraising efforts for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, the Fraternity is also encouraging all sisters to engage in volunteer service activities related to diabetes awareness and education on your campuses and in your communities.

Through our collaboration with the American Diabetes Association, we have created the Stop Diabetes Playbook to be your one-stop resource to find local Association community service opportunities. Our Purpose challenges us to contribute to the world's work in the community where we are placed—and that's just what this guide aims to help you do!

In the Playbook, you can find everything you need to know to get connected with your local Association and to join forces to help raise diabetes awareness and education in your own community. The Playbook also includes a ton of online resources, like social media messages and photos, information about ways to prevent type 2 diabetes and tools for managing diabetes!

Did you know March 24 kicks off the American Diabetes Association Alert Day campaign?
It serves as a "wake up call," asking everyone to take the Diabetes Risk Test to find out whether they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. How can you get involved? On March 24 though April 21, share the test with your families, chapters, clubs, campuses and communities!

Here are some social media messages and the Diabetes Alert Day logo you can use to promote the day.

The American Diabetes Association website is a great resource for you, as well.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation
The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation provides grants that support members and other individuals living with diabetes. Financial support is also offered to members in emergency situations. Volunteer and leadership training opportunities are provided through Foundation funding as well. Overall, the Foundation impacts and enriches our communities by providing essential support for education, philanthropy and leadership.

In Our Local Communities
On the local level, our collegiate chapters and alumnae groups diligently carry out their own community-based philanthropy events and activities. Some groups focus on diabetes research and prevention, while others focus on a different need in their local community. Together, just as in years past, we continue to inspire the woman and impact the world in the communities in which we live.
