Electronic Quarterly—Questions About Navigation, Readability and Technology

A survey was recently conducted among Alpha Gamma Deltas that allowed them to test the new electronic Quarterly. Many of the questions below were asked by these members. If you have additional questions about navigating the electronic Quarterly, e-mail quarterly@alphagammadelta.org.

Quick User Guide.

Q: I’m using a notebook/laptop computer and am having difficulties zooming with my touch pad. How can I zoom effectively on a notebook/laptop computer?
A: Using the touch pad mouse on your notebook/laptop computer can be difficult. We recommend using an external mouse so you can easily navigate the electronic Quarterly.

Q: Where is the Zoom button?
A: Your mouse pointer is the Zoom feature.

Q: How do I adjust the level of Zoom?
A: Left click on the page to zoom in on the magazine. To adjust the level of zoom, use the scroll wheel. To zoom out to the original size, left click your mouse.

Q: What internet browser should I use to view the electronic Quarterly?
A: The Zmag can be used for various browser types on both Mac OS and Windows.

Q: What version of Flash should I use to view the electronic Quarterly?
A: The minimum required version for Flash is Flash Player 9.0.115. If you do not have Flash installed or are using an older version, you should be redirected to a page from which Flash Player can be installed. If you are not redirected, you can download the latest version of Flash for free here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=DXLUJ.

A: You may not have the latest version of Adobe Reader installed on your computer. Download the latest version for free here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/.

Q: How can I save a PDF to my computer?
A: When you are downloading to a PDF, right click on the link and select “Save Target As.” This will allow you to save it to your computer for future reference.

Q: Why can’t I Search in Full Screen Mode?
A: Keyboard input may not work in Full Screen Mode, so you may not be able to insert text in the Search field.

Electronic Quarterly—General Questions About Launch

The Alpha Gamma Delta Quarterly, published continuously since 1909, is excited to announce it is going partially electronic! Instead of producing four printed issues per year, starting in winter 2010, only two issues per year will be printed—spring and fall. The other two issues—winter and summer—will be delivered directly to your inbox.

Q: Which issues will be electronic and which will be print?
A:
Winter 2010—Electronic
Spring 2010—Print
Summer 2010—Electronic
Fall 2010—Print

Q: How do I sign up for the electronic Quarterly?
A: Complete this form!

Q: How do I find my member number?
A: Your member number is on the mailing label on the back of your Quarterly magazine. Click here to see where your member number is located. *Note: The fall 2009 issue of the Quarterly did not list the member number correctly on the mailing label. If you cannot find your member number, simply e-mailing your full Fraternity name and initiating chapter should suffice. We're sorry for the inconvenience.*

A New Quarterly...and New Submission Options!

The Quarterly makeover has prompted some new features to the magazine! Please see below to learn how to submit information for these new features.

Spot a Squirrel
The Quarterly staff is excited to introduce the Spot a Squirrel section, as the squirrel is a popular icon that is synonymous with Alpha Gamma Delta. Visiting a restaurant and see a squirrel figurine? Take a photo! On vacation and spot a squirrel stuffed animal? Take a photo! Make sure the photograph is high resolution and only contains Alpha Gam sisters. Review the Photo Specifications section to learn more about photo quality.

Sister Spotlight
Do you know a sister who has gone above and beyond in her duties to Alpha Gamma Delta? Nominate her for Sister Spotlight! In each issue of the Quarterly, one outstanding Alpha Gam will be honored for her exceptional service. Complete the form and e-mail it to quarterly@alphagammadelta.org.

Alumnae Chapter Reports
Our alumnae chapters and clubs are doing great things across the continent and this new section of the Quarterly is designed to feature their activities and accomplishments! Complete the online form and send a high resolution photograph to quarterly@alphagammadelta.org. Review the Photo Specifications section to learn more about photo quality.

Collegiate Chapter Reports
Please write two separate paragraphs about how your chapter is fulfilling each of the two lines of the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose listed below and e-mail the report to quarterly@alphagammadelta.org. Try to include high resolution photos of the chapter for possible inclusion in the Quarterly. Review the Photo Specifications section to learn more about photo quality.) Word count should not exceed 100 words for each paragraph.

Download the form on the Member Services section of the Fraternity website, under Collegiate Materials, Resources/Handbooks and then Operations Team.

For Minnesota through Wyoming Chapters and Canadian Chapters: Due March 15

  • We may use submissions in other Fraternity publications and on the official website.
  • The Quarterly staff regrets that we cannot use all submissions.

Photo Specifications

  • Please mail an original photograph or a copy made from an original negative that is: color, focused and close-up. Photocopies, digital printouts, copy shop reproductions or digital photos less than 300 DPI at 100 percent are not suitable for publication in the Alpha Gamma Delta Quarterly magazine.
  • Clear, high-quality action photographs have the best chance of being published.
  • On a sheet of paper included with the photo(s) write a detailed description of each photograph and list the full names (including maiden) and chapter name of each member in the photo (left to right). We do not have space to list the names of more than 10 people in a photo caption. Please do not use markers to write on the back of photos or to write on paper included with your photo. The ink often comes off on the photo and ruins the photo.
  • We will return your photograph at your request. If you would like the photo returned, please write your name and address on the sticky note on the back of the photo.
  • Please do not submit photos that show cigarettes or glasses, bottles or cans that may contain alcohol.
