Alpha Gamma Delta

Junior Circle News

A Message from your Fraternity Program Specialists

It was a busy summer for Alpha Gamma Delta as the Fraternity took on a new Volunteer Service Team structure.  We are all grouped by communities now. With fall here, the collegiate chapters, alumnae chapter/clubs, and Junior Circles will be working hand in hand to continue to build strong bonds of sisterhood. There are so many ways to do this, and as a Junior Circle you have wonderful opportunities to touch the lives of so many people!

We may have a new structure of Alpha Gamma Delta, but our Junior Circles still function the same way. What may have changed is your Province Director and, in a few cases, which Fraternity Programs Specialist you work with. You may notice that your contact person was once called the Junior Circle Chairman, changed to an Alumnae Program Specialist, now Fraternity Program Specialist. It is very exciting because there are so many fun and beneficial programs under the Fraternity Programs team and we are happy to be a part of such a special aspect of the Fraternity. No matter our title, we are still here to help you with your Junior Circle.

Check to see if your Fraternity Program Specialist has changed:

Areas A, B, C and D: CJ Neal Lipski

Areas E, F, G, H, I and J: Jeanne Campbell Jacobs

Junior Circle to Alumnae Club

Ever think that the members of your group seem to be moving beyond the Junior Circle transition age and there is no Alumnae Club in the area? Maybe it is time to think about becoming an Alumnae Club.  For more information please contact your Fraternity Program Specialist (Remember that that the Junior Circle age limit of 35 is NOT set in stone, it is just a guideline).

Whats Going On?

Our greatest resource is each other. The reason your Fraternity Program Specialists ask to be placed on your e-mail list, evite list, etc. is to see what events are working for Junior Circles. This enables us to pass that information along to others. Maybe your group will use one of these ideas or put your own spin to it.  When you do, let us know and maybe youll see your groups name in the next newsletter.  Remember when planning to consider your members interests and above all have FUN! You scream! I scream!  We all scream for ice cream! The Atlanta Junior Circle held an Ice Cream Social in October at the home of Cory Richardson, Junior Circle President. They served ice cream and cokes and socialized out on the deck. It was a great opportunity to recruit and welcome new alumnae to the Atlanta Junior Circle. Great idea Atlanta!

Last summer the Toronto Junior Circle entered two teams in an "Amazing Race" style event that raised money for the United Way of Toronto.  A local newspaper article featured several Alpha Gam sisters!  What a great way to contribute to your community!

The Greater Raleigh Junior Circle believes in embracing a close relationship with their alumnae chapter. Among many events they hold together, they had a holiday party in December. They incorporated a philanthropy project by collecting items for Interact, a private, non-profit, United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault. Way to go girls!

The Hawaii Junior Circle has had events that have run the gamut from soup to nuts (and we know how squirrels love nuts) such as dinners & craft workshops, i.e., Pampered Chef, Longaberger & Stampin Up parties, Wine-Making/Bottling, Color Me Mine Pottery, Bowling, & BBQs. They also joined the alumnae chapter for Pie for Pi, a scholarship banquet night, among other joint activities. Mahalo, Katie Mellinger and Kapua Nakamoto!

Jeannine Seitenzahl in San Diego plans about one event per month. She tries to do one event on a weekday evening after work, and then the next month does one on the weekend. Most of the Junior Circle like this arrangement and enjoy coming to one event per month. All members on the email contact list are notified and about 10 are active Junior Circle members. Sounds very doable!

Junior Circle Activity Ideas

How about a book club?   President Kelly Skiver tells us the Los Angeles Junior Circle book club meets monthly at a different sisters home each time and invites non-Greeks to join in the fun. Hmmm...a recruiting tool?

In Houston, the ladies are quite the techies and provide a link to the restaurant where the gathering will be so everyone can take a look before they go. They use lots of variety in their choices so theres something for everyone at one time or another! Good idea! And we all thank Kristen Schaiblefor her outstanding service there. Kristen will be serving as Vice President for the alumnae group.

Many groups are planning to walk in or volunteer at a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk. This is a wonderful opportunity to "develop and prize health and vigor of body" as well as welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world work in the community where I am placed".  Live the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose everyday and see how good it feels! Dont forget to wear your Alpha Gamma Delta letters!

The fall gives many opportunities to attend local craft fairs and arts and crafts shows. Why not get your sisters together for a day to walk around a get a jump on holiday shopping.

Instead of buying gifts this year, make some! Get your Junior Circle together and go to a pottery painting class or craft store for a class.

Check out your local free outdoor concerts or movies. This can be a really fun event for sisters. It is also gives a good chance to get together with husbands, families, boyfriends, or friends.

See what is going on in your local Panhellenic Alumnae group. It is a wonderful chance to share our sisterhood with our Panhellenic sisters and our community.
